Before the festival arrives, every family is busy with spring cleaning. We scrub the windows until they’re crystal - clear and sweep away the dust, symbolically removing the old and making way for the new. Red lanterns are hung high, and couplets with auspicious words are pasted on both sides of the door, creating a festive atmosphere.
On New Year’s Eve, a grand family reunion dinner is a must. Tables are laden with a variety of delicious dishes, like dumplings, which are shaped like ingots, symbolizing wealth. After dinner, the younger generation kowtows to the elders, wishing them good health and a long life, and in return, they receive red envelopes filled with lucky money.
During the festival, people visit relatives and friends, exchanging greetings and well - wishes. Children are especially excited as they wear new clothes, set off fireworks, and enjoy the lively lion and dragon dances on the streets.
The Spring Festival is not just a celebration; it’s a time for family unity and the passing - down of our cultural heritage. It fills everyone with hope and happiness for the new year ahead.
