The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce issued a statement on the US announcement to impose a 10% tariff increase on China’s products exported to the United States
At about 8 pm on February 1, U.S. Eastern Time, the U.S. White House issued a list of facts, announcing a 10% tariff on China products exported to the United States on the grounds of issues such as fentanyl. China is strongly dissatisfied with this and firmly opposes it. The unilateral imposition of tariffs by the United States seriously violates WTO rules. It is not only not conducive to solving its own problems, but also undermines normal economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States. China will file a lawsuit with the WTO for the wrong practices of the United States and will take corresponding countermeasures to firmly safeguard its rights and interests. China hopes that the United States will view and handle its own issues such as fentanyl objectively and rationally, rather than threatening other countries with tariffs at all times. China urges the United States to correct its wrong practices, work in the opposite direction with China, face problems head-on, have candid dialogue, strengthen cooperation, and manage differences on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect
