The following is an application of ModernTool’s use of Donaldson’s Honeycomb Dust Collector TG–4 to treat laser cutting dust. The system has been put into use since February 2009. The total air volume of the system is 4250m/h, and the air volume processed by each filter element is 1062m2/h. Figure 5 is a graph drawn from the data recorded by the differential pressure recorder after running for 2100 h. It can be seen from the operation curve that the operating pressure difference of the honeycomb dust collector has been stable in the range of 500~1250Pa. This shows that the honeycomb dust removal technology is stable and reliable.

3 Advantages and disadvantages

The biggest advantage of the honeycomb dust collector is that it reduces the footprint of the dust collector with its efficient processing capacity. Calculated by volume, compared with the same volume of filter cartridges and filter bags, the air volume processed by the honeycomb filter element is 3 times that of the filter cartridge and 6 times that of the filter bag. Secondly, the dust collector can run stably for a long time, which ensures the reliability of the system. In addition, due to the low operating pressure difference of the honeycomb dust collector, the operating power of the fan can be greatly reduced, thereby saving the operating cost for the user. However, honeycomb dust collectors still have some technical difficulties to overcome. (1) Due to the small section of the triangular filter tank, if the dust is not removed in time, the honeycomb filter element is easy to block; (2) The honeycomb dust collector is more sensitive to the humidity of dust, especially some dust that is easy to absorb moisture. When the dust absorbs moisture in the triangular filter tank, it is easy to expand in the filter tank, and finally the filter element is blocked.
