Analysis of the structure and working principle of the air filter
How does air get into the engine?
When the engine is working, it is divided into four strokes, one of which is the intake stroke. During this stroke, the engine piston descends, creating a vacuum in the intake pipe, drawing air into the engine combustion chamber to mix with gasoline and burn it.
So, can the air around us be directly supplied to the engine? The answer is no. We know that the engine is a very precise mechanical product, and the requirements for the cleanliness of the raw materials are very strict. The air contains a certain amount of impurities, these impurities will cause damage to the engine, so the air must be filtered before entering the engine, and the device that filters the air is the air filter, commonly known as the air filter element.
What are the types of air filters? How does it work?
There are mainly three methods: inertia type, filter type and oil bath type:
01 Inertia:
Since the density of impurities is higher than that of air, when the impurities rotate or turn sharply with the air, the centrifugal inertial force can separate the impurities from the airflow. Used on some trucks or construction machinery.
02 Filter type:
Guide the air to flow through the metal filter screen or filter paper, etc., to block the impurities and stick to the filter element. Most cars use this method.
03 Oil bath type:
There is an oil pan at the bottom of the air filter, which uses the airflow to impact the oil rapidly, separates impurities and sticks in the oil, and the agitated oil droplets flow through the filter element with the airflow and adhere to the filter element. When the air flows through the filter element, it can further absorb impurities, so as to achieve the purpose of filtration. Some commercial vehicles use this method.
How to maintain the air filter? What is the replacement cycle?
In daily use, we should always check whether the intake pipe is damaged, whether the pipe clamps at each interface are loose, whether the outer casing of the air filter is damaged, and whether the buckle is falling off. In short, it is necessary to keep the intake pipe well sealed and not leaking.
There is no clear replacement cycle for the replacement of the air filter. Generally, it is blown every 5,000 kilometers and replaced every 10,000 kilometers. But it depends on the specific use environment. If the environment is very dusty, the replacement time should be shortened. If the environment is good, the replacement cycle can be appropriately extended.
