Is the diesel filter the same as the fuel-water separator?

The structure and function of the two are different. The fuel-water separator can only separate water and cannot filter impurities. There is a water drain plug under it, which can drain water regularly without replacing it. The diesel filter can filter impurities and needs to be replaced regularly, but some diesel filters also have a water separation function, and there is also a water drain plug under it.

The difference is that their structure is different. The structure of diesel filter is roughly the same as that of fuel filter. There are replaceable and spin-on types. Diesel fine filter is the main filter in the two-stage filtration, and it also filters impurities. The last line of defense has high requirements on filtration efficiency and service life. At present, for diesel heavy trucks of the National Three Standards, the filtration efficiency of 3–5 microns particles is required to be as high as 98.6%, the filtration efficiency of particles above 5–10 microns is 99.8%, and the filtration efficiency of particles above 10 microns is required to be 99.9%. While ensuring high filtration efficiency, it must also meet the small flow resistance to ensure the reliable operation of the engine and sufficient power.
