Engine fuel-water separator – consequences of problems in fuel-water separator

1、 Faults such as unstable or weak acceleration of the engine and black smoke emission

The high-pressure fuel injection nozzle in the high-pressure common rail system needs to accurately control the injection pressure, injection time and injection quantity, and the work of the fuel injection nozzle is relatively fine. If there is a problem with the fuel-water separator, the water and impurities in the diesel fuel will form wear and tear on the plunger coupling in the fuel injection nozzle until the fuel injector is stuck. At the same time, it will cause explosive damage to the spherical surface of the valve assembly. This causes the fuel quantity of the fuel injector to increase. It will cause the engine to accelerate unsteadily or weakly, or emit black smoke and other faults, and even directly damage the engine. Due to the fine workmanship of the fuel injector, its price is also relatively high. For the above reasons, when the fuel-water separator has problems, it must be replaced in time.

2、 Easy to produce carbon deposit

If the fuel-water separator is damaged, the water and impurities in the diesel fuel will pass through the filter device, and then accumulate in the intake valve, intake port and cylinder, forming hard carbon deposits over time, which will affect the engine’s operation, and in serious cases, cause the engine to be damaged.

Damage to the fuel-water separator will cause carbon deposition on the valve, which will lead to engine starting difficulties, unstable idle speed, poor acceleration, flash fuel, excessive exhaust gas, increased fuel consumption and other abnormal phenomena, and even lead to engine damage.

3、 White smoke from engine

Damage to the fuel-water separator will cause white smoke from the engine, because the water in the fuel will turn into water vapor during combustion, which will cause white smoke. The water vapor in the white smoke will damage the high-pressure fuel injector, cause the engine power to be insufficient, and cause sudden shutdown. In serious cases, the engine will be directly damaged.
