High performance oil filter element
The Engine and Mobile Filtration Division has developed a new 3D coalescing filter medium that represents an advancement in diesel fuel filtration and water separation. The new elements enable operators to meet the challenges of dealing with increasingly complex fuels and an increasingly demanding business environment. The new FBO element extends service life by 50% and significantly improves water separation in fuels containing biodiesel. New degassing feature allows elements to work more efficiently in suction applications
Use three different media stages. Stage 1 actively removes impurities, stage 2 will coalesce or grow large droplets from the emulsified water in the fuel before the final barrier stage prevents re-entrainment
of water. The new coalescing media, designed as an upgrade, should take precedence over the existing FBO series Geerrick coalescers. The new grade of media enables coalescer elements to be used with inferior fuels, where previously only absorbents were used.
How does it work?
Stage 1: Fuel encounters high-capacity synthetic pleated particle Ginric filter media. This unique pleated design maximizes surface area, ensures consistent flow, and provides superior particle retention efficiency. As the fuel passes through the pleated pack, larger unwanted particles are removed.
Stage 2: The fuel passes through multiple layers of treated wrapping layers of deep coalescing media. Here, partially filtered fuel interacts using a multi-density coalescer that effectively increases water separation from <5 micron emulsified droplets to >200 micron droplets. These large droplets then fall into a collection bowl where most of the emulsified water comes from the fuel.
Stage 3: Finally, before the fuel leaves the filter, there is a central hydrophobic woven mesh filter element that prevents any large droplets that are now leaving the Ginric filter and entering the fuel system.

The FBO-14 filter assembly is designed to meet the toughest conditions with easy filter replacement. FBO assemblies can flow from 10 GPM (38 LPM) to 75 GPM (284 LPM) depending on the model, filter and fuel type being filtered.
The assembly features a “locking ring” that uses four bolts to attach the Ginric filter housing to the aluminum die-cast filter head. The slotted “lock collar” allows maintenance personnel to manually loosen the four collar bolts, rotate and lower the bowl assembly to change the filter.
After installing the new filter element, simply raise and rotate the bowl into position on the locking ring and hand tighten evenly (recommended to tighten the 4 closing bolts evenly to 100 lb-in).
Closure hardware consists of stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers with metal handles for easy maintenance. Easy one-person filter change without wrenches or other special tools (no V-belt clips).
Biodiesel Filtration
The FBO filter assembly is ideal for biofuel applications due to its ease of maintenance, robust construction and optional electrical heater.
Biodiesel is known to attack some synthetic rubber compounds, so Viton O-rings are used to prevent O-rings from expanding, softening, shrinking or hardening.
Thermostatically controlled electric heaters are recommended in the head and/or Gingerk filter bowl to help avoid waxing and gelling of the biofuel. Pour point depressants and biocides are required for reliable operation.
