fuel filter action
The function of the fuel filter is to remove the iron oxide, dust and other solid impurities contained in the fuel to prevent the fuel system from being blocked (especially the fuel injector). Reduce mechanical wear, ensure stable engine operation and improve reliability.
How fuel filters work
The fuel filter is connected in series on the pipeline between the fuel pump and the throttle body inlet. The function of the fuel filter is to remove the iron oxide, dust and other solid impurities contained in the fuel to prevent the fuel system from being blocked (especially the fuel injector). Reduce mechanical wear, ensure stable engine operation and improve reliability. The structure of the fuel burner is composed of an aluminum shell and a bracket with stainless steel inside. The bracket is equipped with a high-efficiency filter paper, which is in the shape of a chrysanthemum to increase the flow area. EFI filters cannot be used with carburetor filters.
Since the EFI filter often bears the fuel pressure of 200-300KPA, the compressive strength of the filter is generally required to reach more than 500KPA, while the carburetor filter does not need to reach such a high pressure.
Why change the fuel filter
As we all know, gasoline is refined from crude oil through a complex process, and then transported to various refueling stations through special routes, and finally delivered to the owner’s fuel tank. In this process, impurities in gasoline will inevitably enter the fuel tank, and in addition, with the extension of use time, the impurities will also increase. In this way, the filter used to filter the fuel will be dirty and full of dregs. If this goes on, the filtering effect will be greatly reduced.
Therefore, it is recommended to replace it when the number of kilometers is reached. If it is not replaced, or it is delayed, it will definitely affect the performance of the car, resulting in poor oil flow, lack of refueling, etc., and eventually lead to chronic damage to the engine, or even overhaul of the engine.
How often to change the fuel filter
The replacement cycle of automobile fuel filters is generally about 10,000 kilometers. For the best replacement time, please refer to the instructions in the vehicle manual. Usually, the replacement of the fuel filter is carried out during the major maintenance of the car, and it is replaced at the same time as the air filter and the oil filter, which is what we call “three filters” every day.
Regular replacement of the “three filters” is a key way to maintain the engine, which is of great significance to reduce engine wear and ensure its service life.
